You should tell your parents or any other trusted adult and go to see a doctor (orthopedician). Then get an mri scan or an xray if the doctor thinks you should.

Swimming will help you feel great, physically.
im 21 years old. and i didnt wear my brace as much as i should have. i have a 55 degree curve. (i think) but its there for life. its stable. so no surgery right now for me. thats what my doctor says anyway.... but to anyone out there. PLEASE WEAR THAT UGLY STUPID ANNOYING BRACE! YOU WILL REGRET IT , IF YOU DONT!

Well, personally, I do not believe in the brace at all. I’ve known people who wore the brace religiously for years, and wore it every day and yet, their curvature only increased and they had to eventually get surgery. Wearing the brace also has negative impacts on the person’s already weakened mind and can lead to a low self image. I would advice active management of your scoliosis once it’s detected. If the curve is not too much and you do not immediately require surgery, go for physiotherapy, yoga, chiropractics, etc. It’s better than wearing a brace.

But then again, this topic is debatable and I’m not trying to influence anybody into not wearing their brace. So please use your own jurisdiction and think wisely because your health and your future is at stake.

im 55 degrees out. and stable. my doctor says he doesnt want to do surgery. so thats good. but he says i have to lose weight. its really hard to do that since when im sad, i like to eat a lot of food. and my back can give me alot of pain, which makes exercise horrible. my height is 5'1 and i weigh about 155lbs. so im really out of shape.. any advice?

You should try swimming. It’s great exercise and helps with scoliosis too because under water, you can lengthen your spine (and thus strengthen it). And swimming will not give you any back pain. It’s the best exercise for a scoliotic person. You can also try yoga with a professional teacher (look into Iyengar Yoga) who will be able to help you with your scoliosis and yoga will also provide great exercise!

After a fusion surgery,my 98 degree turned into a 38,but now all of my muscles on the left side of my body have shifted upwards, and the right side, downwards. It looks like I have a large lump growing out of the left side of my shoulder(the part between the end of my neck and the beginning of my shoulder)I always wear either my hair down, or a thick scarf to cover my abnormal stature, but I am in a school play where all of the girls have to tie thehair up, my costume is boatneck dress, needadvice

If you’re worried about what people will think on seeing your deformity and are feeling conscious, try not to. It doesn’t matter what they say or think. The good ones will only look beyond your deformity and see your struggle, your bravery, what you had to put up with and what you have survived. Be proud of yourself and your scars. Don’t be afraid to show them. Don’t hide. People will understand. Hope your play is/was good!

I've just been told today that I have to have an operation for scoliosis and I have a 46 degree curve, I'm really scared of needles and tubes and I've never had op. before, I feel sick whenever I think of people getting cut open:(

Don’t worry please. You’ll be fine and you’ll be better after your operation. Think of that. And you won’t be conscious during surgery obviously, so you won’t even get to know it’s happening and just be brave and you’ll get through to the brighter side. Be brave, be brave. My love is with you.

ATTENTION GIRLS WITH SCOLIOSIS THAT THINK YOU LOOK UGLY IN A BIKINI AND ARE SELF CONCIOUS ABOUT HOW YOU LOOK ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO BOYS. men like there curvy girls ;) it made me lol when i was thinking about it hahah :) don't worry you're all still beautiful boys and girls with that funky spine of yours:)

Perhaps outer deformities are a physical manifestation of the uniqueness inside of you. A certain twisted uniqueness that is deviated from reality and is growing in a whole new world of its own, with a vision that is too beautiful to be bound solely by the real world.

I feel good when I say this- I have forgotten :) It’s changed a lot since I started doing yoga. I think it was about 28 degrees, 5 years ago, but some doctors diagnosed it differently and said 39, so I can not be sure about that. And right now, I don’t know what it is, simply because I do not need to know. The progress is self evident.
